July 19, 1848 - First Women's Rights Conference Held in Seneca Falls, NY
On this day in 1848, 300 people attended a women's rights conference in Seneca Falls, New York. At the conclusion of the two-day meeting, 68 women and 32 men signed the Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions, and a committee established the agenda for the forthcoming women?s suffragist movement. Women won the right to vote (an issue at the heart of the agenda) in 1920, with the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment.
