November 16, 1973 - President Nixon Signs Alaska Pipeline Measure
President Richard M. Nixon signs the Trans Alaska Pipeline Authorization Act. The act halts all ongoing legal challenges to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System. The system is designed to transport oil from Northern Alaska's Prudhoe Bay to the nearest ice-free port at Valdez, nearly 800 miles away.
