January 17, 1706 - Birth of Benjamin Franklin
Statesman and inventor Benjamin Franklin is born. In addition to his many accomplishments in printing and science, Franklin will sign the Declaration of Independence, and serve in the Continental Congress. In 1776, Franklin will be assigned as an ambassador to France, where he will help negotiate the Treaty of Paris in 1783, which will officially end the Revolutionary War.
