February 27, 1922 - Supreme Court Upholds 19th Amendment
In deciding Leser v. Garnett, the U.S. Supreme Court upholds the constitutionality of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. The Court rejected arguments that the Constitution of Maryland limits suffrage to men and that the 19th Amendment's ratification infringed upon state sovereignty. Ratified in August 1920, the 19th Amendment guarantees all American women the right to vote.
